  • Because alcohol is primarily a depressant of the central nervous system, drinking liquor produces relaxation, reduced inhibitions, impaired concentration, slowed reflexes, reduced reaction time, and reduced coordination.
  • A three week study by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse that had men and women consume 30-40 grams of alcohol (approximately three beers) per day, showed a 6.8% reduction in testosterone for the men and none for the women at the end of the study-period.
  • All states in the United States have adopted 0.08% (80 mg/dL) as the legal limit of alcohol consumption for operating a motor vehicle for drivers aged 21 years or older. However, drivers younger than 21 are not allowed to operate a motor vehicle with any level of alcohol in their system.
  • In 2004, an estimated 22.5 million Americans aged 12 or older needed treatment for substance abuse and addiction (alcohol or illicit drugs). Of these, a mere 3.8 million people received it.
